April 30th Deadline to Submit Feedback on the Updated Fire Risk Maps for Chino Hills

Hello Alterra Residents,

The Board would like to convey an important message to the community regarding the recently updated fire risk maps for Chino Hills and the deadline (4/30/25) to providing feedback to the Chino Valley Fire District. Please refer to the information below:

CAL-FIRE’s new Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ) maps have determined that over 24,000 acres in Chino Hills are at wildfire risk, with 20,000+ acres in the “very high risk” & “high risk” categories. This will likely affect Alterra property values and our ability to keep or acquire homeowner’s insurance. Residents in these zones must create defensible space and follow stricter building codes. Sellers must disclose fire hazard ratings, and homeowners may need to make fire-resistant upgrades for insurance. Chino Valley Fire encourages community members to review the updated map at https://chinovalleyfire.org/fire-hazard-severity-zone-map and provide feedback by APRIL 30TH via email to FHSZMap@chofire.org. The fire district cannot change the designation made by the State Fire Marshal, but we can express our comments, questions, and concerns.
